It’s Mass day, a swarm of blue blazers file into the gym and make their way to their seats. “Please stand,” choir director Mr. DiCarlo says from the back. Then from the organ: a note, a chord. The sound is wired throughout the speakers of the gym, but who makes it? That would be no other than Senior Jordan “jordanpianohands” Vivero. Many may know him for his works as a classical, student musician, but Vivero is multi-instrumentalist for a band called Inkblot.

A alternative/indie act, Vivero and the rest of Inkblot which includes: Academy of the Holy Names Senior Sydney Beil (vocals) and Matthew Kosto (drums), have performed in locations all across the Tampa Bay Area. From Curtis Hixon for the Gasparilla Music Festival to The Orpheum in Ybor City, Vivero and Inkblot have gained a significant amount of clout in the Florida music scene performing with acts such as Natalie Claro, IOH, The Infinite Eights, and Babyblu.

The typical Inkblot set includes their original tracks from their debut EP Spectrum (released 4.14.17) which includes – “Fool’s Gold,” “Jade,’ “Scarlet,” “Lavender,” and “Bleu” – as well as covers from The 1975, Coin, Panic! at the Disco, and DNCE.

I recently sat down with Jordan to talk about the development of his eclectic musical taste and influences which spans from indie darlings Florence and the Machine to internet synthpop star Poppy. One artist that he particularly resonates with is Lady Gaga because of the fusing of her classical piano roots with pop flavors as displayed throughout her discography. But before investing himself in these acts, Jordan would only listen to the sounds of the past such as Journey and Styx. Lately, he has been heavily influenced by the movie Baby Driver, a de facto musical action movie directed by Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Cornetto Trilogy), starring Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars), Lily James (Cinderella), Kevin Spacey (House of Cards), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), and Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained).

“I may have seen it, 7 times, hopefully, 8. . .” Jordan admitted.

Like Baby Driver, Jordan’s soundtrack is very diverse ranging from different musical styles.

“Genre is dead, and let it die . . . just make music,” He proclaimed.

Many musicians (Kevin Abstract, CupcakKe) from all over the world have used the internet as a gateway to gain a fanbase and express their own style, Vivero stated he was inspired by their doings and that he aspires to emulate their wise methods to inspire creativity into minds from Tampa to all over the world.
